Purelite
Country: Republic of Korea (South Korea)
Structure: License/Manufacturing
Industry: Manufacturing and sales of commercial lighting
fixtures
Background
Jim Hogan, a successful entrepreneur in the modular office furniture
business, created a specialized modular light for office furniture
called Purelite. Purelite has a special air filter and fan built into
the modular light.
Challenge
The demand for Purelite in the USA was strong due to a growing concern
over the effects of second hand cigarette smoke in the workplace.
Mr. Hogan was interested in participating in the rapidly growing Asian
office furniture business, but he lacked knowledge of the market and
was not sure if there would be a strong demand for his product.
Solution
In need of assistance, Mr. Hogan called BrandAmerica’s CEO,
Michael Sadak, an old friend and former neighbor. BrandAmerica took
on the task of finding Mr. Hogan a production and distribution partner
in Asia.
Result
A License Agreement was entered into between Mr. Hogan and a successful
Korean manufacturer and distributor of modular office furniture. The
License Agreement provided for the production of the Purelite product
in Korea and its distribution in Korea and other selected Asian countries.
Mr. Hogan received an initial License Fee and a Royalty on each Purelite
produced and distributed under the terms of the License Agreement.
